Space/Science » in reply to Satellite Data Reveal Gravity Change From Sumatran Earthquake

Hype and Spin

For the first time, scientists have been able to use satellite data to detect the changes in Earth's surface caused by a massive earthquake.

Actually, for years radar interferometry has shown precursor, syn-tectonic, and post-main-shock deformation of the Earth's surface. There is nothing new about "satellite data"

What IS new is using precise orbital determination to detect changes in the high-order gravotational field of the Earth.

(Length-of day changes associated with major quakes have been noted for many decades, too)
