What would you propose the officials do to prevent planes form being blown up?
In point of fact, all they can do is make things safer. They can't make them safe. As with any kind of terrorism, it's almost impossible to defend against someone willing to die to kill you.
We could stop the inspection crap, and accept a certain amount of airplanes plunged in flames to the ground, like we accept a certain amount of automobile accidents. You think that would work in this society? Or would the next airplane blown up have you all screaming for the omniscience and omnipotence some people seem to demand of governments?
