While I was stationed in Italy . . .
My wife went to a Sinagog meeting in Frankfurt. She was fluent in spanish, understood a lot of French and was working on her Italian, and was more than a bit worried about speaking in Germany. She was so thrilled to find many people there spoke no German at all, but interacted in Yiddish.
