I remember that one! The boy who cried "wolf".

As I recall, it was a satire on the newspaper business (read MEDIA, today) and how it tends to make stuff up and report trivia when things are slow. As I recall, when aliens invade earth late in the summer, earth is caught off guard because no one believes the news bulletins about the attack.

Very prescient story, and quite applicable to today's news. Much more dangerous, in my opinion, than any ideological bias there might be in the press, is it's alarming tendency these days to tell viewers what they want to hear and not what they need to know. When the news becomes a business, instead of a loss leader, the truth is lost in the clutter.

Even a biased press can be informative if you learn how to read between the lines. Like "Excess Hollywood" and "Infotainment Tonite", most local TV news is designed primarily to sell commercial minutes, not transmit information.
