That's the other side of the coin: I have been deeply affected by memorials elsewhere, the Vietnam Memorial Wall in DC being chief among them, even though I never personally knew anyone killed in that war. I once spent a solemn Veteran's Day afternoon at the 28th Div. Memorial, where, among others, can be found the names of men killed the very day of Armistice, 11 November 1918. A simple country graveyard near here had unexpected impact, upon discovering so many graves of infants and toddlers.
Why there, and why not Dealey Plaza? That's the puzzlement that prompted me to write.
My friend and I talked about something else while trying to figure out our detachment from the JFK assassination: saturation. Not only with that event, but the MLK and RFK assassinations 5 years later.
