Time covers a lot of things. I stood at Omaha Beach a couple of years ago, and watched the waves come in and the people playing in the sand. Aside from the monument next to me, which had an almost Easter-Island look to it, there was no sign where I stood that anything unusual had happened. Of course, a short ways behind me was the vast cemetery, containing almost ten thousand Americans...

I wish to God they had just rebuilt the Twin Towers. Redesigned them for more safety, and thrown them up again. They would have been almost done by now. The response to date has been mostly half-hearted designs, and monuments to architectural egos.
