I find the contrast between your post and RNE's to be fascinating. I'd consider him to be a Conservative, but clearly of the old school, the traditional Classic Conservative skeptical of authoritarian power and exalting individual liberty. The two of you are like night and day...both Conservatives, yet embodying the diametrically-opposed attitudes of authoritarian versus antiauthoritarian Conservative.

The Classics are a constant rebuke to the Neo/authoritarian conservatives; no wonder y'all feel you have to sneer them into irrelevance with the epithet "paleoconservative". But yet, Classic Conservatives are the true keepers of the flame, defenders of honor and integrity, patriotic more than partisan. I think America's best hope against the evil of authoritarian conservatism is the prospect of the Classics breaking their silence and taking back the GOP. The most profound changes comes from the heart, and the Classics are the heart of Conservatism.
