One million

The cluster munition described by the BBC has about 202 bomblets. Even assuming the 40 percent dud rate claimed in the article--and the highest I've ever seen for any cluster bomb is 16 percent--a million unexploded bomblets would have required that well over 12,000 such bombs be dropped. The article says that Israel fired 6,000 total rockets, bombs, and artillery shells of all kinds during the war.

But hey, the U.N. also said that 5,000 children a month were dying under Iraqi sanctions.
