I made the plywood jig with three J-bolts firmly bolted to it. I mixed up 4 bags of quikrete and filled the 2' long, 12" sono tube. Let me back up a little, last week I poured the pedestal for the mount, 2'x2'x10''. I welded up a rebar base and tower to connect the tube portion to the pedestal.
Back to the J-bolts. After filling the tube I gently worked the jig and bolts into the concrete. One look under the jig and I could see they were off kilter. I unbolted the jig and tapped the bolts until the tops were level and then massaged them until plumb. I check a couple of times for movement and made some minor corrections. (Hmm, I think I'll go take a look now...Yup, still good)
The only consequence of not aligning them perfectly is I'll have to custom drill the mounting plate for the metal pier...which I was going to do anyway.
BTW no slab- Pier/Post.

You are correct.

- Question: how do you find 3 points on a plywood circle 120 degrees apart, without a protractor? (n/t)
- Without a template, you put your anchor bolts in. Drill out the plate.
- Yet another method
- Here you go, have a protractor:
- If I remember enough geometry...
- Cut a circle out of paper, exactly the same size as your plywood circle
- Yes, there is a way!
- So... tell us what you're building! (n/t)
- Why can't you use a protractor?
- It's impossible
