"people who want us to win" could be any of 300 million Americans plus a dwindling, but still meaningful, proportion of the other ~7 billion on the planet. These vague generalities just don't cut it, Tom!
You have to admit that I tried to give Rummy the benefit of the doubt, when I made the MySpace analogy and observed that Dubya has his whitehouse.org to shill for him. It was only when I found the DOD home page redirected to a page by Karl Rove that I had to concede that he really is politicizing the Pentagon. Had he allowed the DoD to maintain a staid sober official front page separate from his "haven't we Republicans done a grand old job!" jingofest, we wouldn't still be wrangling.
Snide comments signal that there's no more substance to be mined along this branch. The arc of how we got here is interesting: You packed a world of meaning into "About five years late...", and a headline about the DoD responding to the media. I can only interpret it, against megabytes of past railing against the Mainstream Liberal Media Conspiracy and how the good guys just can't get the word out about The Good News in Iraq, that you meant to say that it's good that the Pentagon is jumping into the political arena. Since then you've mainly been denying that that's what they're doing, which to be honest I must discount, because I know you well enough to know that your first sentiment is the one closest to your true feelings in the matter.
I mean, c'mon, Tom, do think anyone would believe that you wouldn't cheer the Pentagon telling the story that backs your side of the argument? You argue a partisan side, and only a partisan Pentagon can help you. QED...everything else has just been angels dancing on the head of a pin.
