Surely not the Silmarillion???
Creation of the Rings and end of the second age?

Though he could make a lifetime career of Beren and Luthien one year, Narn I nin Hurin the next, Tuor, Earendil, Rise and fall of Numenor, etcetera etcera etcetaera
