How free you are to post depends on who's running the board, and how tightly they hold the reins. There are many BBS programs, and many options.
Most well-visited blogs or BBS systems require some form of registration to post or comment. Most use some generic form of registration like Typepad. Basically, most just want your real e-mail address in case of problems. Only a few will make you show that address in one of your comments.
The registration form for that board is more complex than most, but typical.
Some boards have each post examined before it's cleared. Others have the post go up immediately, but it's subject to being removed. Much variety.
Well-known boards have to filter extensively out of sheer self-defense, never mind spam attacks (entering a code is often required to prevent this). Even so, boards like Kos and others accumulate hundreds of comments on a post. Most of the best boards leave opposition posts in place if they are not abusive or obscene.
If you wanted to get involved in that board, Mary Anne, it would not be difficult, and I suspect you would be a valuable addition there. I do not encourage it, though, since you post seldom enough on this board as it is.
