I do the same thing. I have a huge separate drive that I keep all documents, graphics, video, music, and data files on and it'll be fully backed up before any action.

I do however, want to avoid a reinstall of all software. That's a full weekend long project given the complexity of the tasks I perform on this computer and I don't have any full weekends to give to that.
