There's an unfilled software niche here

Microsoft should have filled it, but they haven't - for various reasons.

What is needed is a piece of software that makes backups of ALL your installation disks and ALL the verifications and ALL the updates (and does so in the background, as you install the stuff the first time) so that on a future re-install of the O/S you just run the source file and all those floppies and CD's and drivers are taken care of.

Of course, it would be a big space-sucker with all those multiple layers of updates, and it would be a Pirate's heaven - a ticket to install EVERYTHING in one go. Except it would also be a Hacker's heaven and hidden in all those useful things could be a bunch of deviously malicious code, so you would be mad to buy a pirate version.

But it would help every serious computer user, to manage their OWN system.
