You're right. That's disgusting.
The true sportsman does all he can to protect the species and its environment, and often is beneficial to both by culling excess populations no longer controlled by natural predators. He (or she) also voluntarily accepts a code which puts him and his prey on a more or less even footing and does not use every trick of technology and commerce to ensure a kill. I'm not a hunter, myself, I'm a fisherman (which I concede to be an equivalent, I'm not a mammal chauvinist) but every hunter I know would respond to the practices you mention with an immediate call to the authorities.
