This keeps coming up with me - I use a a word or phrase with an exact meaning, and it's misunderstood or taken out of context.
The word "Islamist" is used to DISTINGUISH militant and violent Islam, from Moslems and Islam as such:
n practice, the word Islamist is used to denote Muslims violently opposed to the encroachment of "western" political, social and cultural influence on the Muslim world.
See? Not Moslems as such, but Islamists. Simple - but, just like Danny in another context, you don't get it, but react only to the media-saturated usage of the word.
BTW, your little point:
I just don't believe it has anything to do with Islam, fascism, or any other ideology. They're just assholes that want to do anybody harm
