Not exactly

I don't have any reason to think that they used shill bidders to bid me up, and didn't mean to imply that. I dropped out at $100 and other people took it up to something like $300.

Hard to figure out what the deal is with marsrovers.com. It's now registered in the Cayman Islands at a PO box under the name "Domain, Administrator" ["hmmm..." I can hear you thinking]. I wouldn't recommend going to their Web site, because you won't enjoy it: it's one of those sites that tenaciously tries to pop up lots of ad windows, and seems to know how to defeat my browser's popup block. The page itself looks like one of those mass-produced sort-of relevant but sort-of not "search" pages. Beats me--I sure wouldn't pay $300 to buy a domain name to do that with it. That's the game of the people who buy domain names for $1.99 in thousand lots.

So now you know the rest of the story. Or at least as much of it as I do.
