The Christian approach to the death penalty.

My perception.

I'm not a believer in the death penalty except under one circumstance. And that's in the case of a person who would likely commit the same crime if ever released. There's no reason any innocent person and family should have to be victimized a second time, and one can't tell for sure that some of those folks might get out.

I've worked with a number of sex offenders, which come in all degrees. Every single one of them is in their way a pathetic creature, having been abused and tortured themselves as children, growing up without a compass, internal or external. That does NOT excuse their actions, does make them understandable.

The problem with Christians and the death penalty is that they want to enact it out of revenge, anger, punishment, and hate. I can't think of anything less Christian. I wish they would read "The Sermon on the Mount" for content, spirit. I would think that since Christ was put to death they'd might want to see that tactic used a little more sparingly.

Christians as a whole sometimes seem to me so fearful, anxious, afraid of the world. Hateful, really. It's been that way since the beginning. Need guns, revenge. Seems to me to be based in a deep sense of personal shame, "Original Sin", if I will.
