re: One thing I do not understand...

Got me. I agree, everyone is doing the best they can all the time. As for me, sometimes it's no damned good.

I was correct in criticizing Christianity in one aspect, incorrect in another. As for the latter, there are many Christians to attempt to exemplify Christ. Who are less judgmental, more compassionate and have an accurate image of themselves as Fallible Human Beings as is everyone. A lot of them.

And there are Protestant churches in my area who are as congregations against this war. Quietly. And some have members who have organized their own neighborhood demonstrations. I admire and respect them.

Christianity in general, however, is not rejecting this war. The Roman Catholic Church in the form of the Pope speaks out against violence. That's not much of an effort, is it? There is no overall, overarching ecumenical Christian movement rejecting the Iraqi war as a creation of a Christian President after consulting with a Christian God. Christianity has allowed itself to be used to justify the war, especially the Fundamental brand with is allied with Israel until the End Times. There, it's Prophecy which has to rule.

The more fundamental flavors of Christianity urge the death penalty, want guns, and in general act like extremely nervous, hostile and judgmental people.

I honestly don't see where Christianity in general has a "product" for most people. Some, I'll grant, get something out of it. But anything which says "I am THE WAY", to the exclusion of all others, is fatally flawed as a compassionate, merciful religion.
