...of course, it'll probably be too late by then.
Due to a wrinkle in the space-time continuum, I've spent the last few months using an old, fairly modest laptop after one of our computers left this plane of existence (for a better place, I'm sure.) Imagine my chagrin at discovering I'm *not* at the top of the computing foodchain at home! Well, my f.m. laptop was having issues with both SQL Server2k5 and Visual Studio 2k5, which are a couple of my mainstays.
Anywho, with my meager share of our tax refund, I bought a new laptop based primarily on two factors, ram and price (2G and reasonable). The OS is Vista, the processor Core 2 Duo. I've only turned it on once so far, to cruise the 'Zone, in fact. I haven't even loaded (or rather, *tried* to load) any of my own software yet, just deleted a few freebies I didn't want cluttering the disk, like the Office '07 trial and upgrade assistant).
So we'll see. To be honest, I've never found the OS to be a stumbling block. I even used ME for a few years to run some pretty demanding software (JRun Java app server, Visual Studio, ColdFusionMX server, trueSpace and Lightwave). To my delight, ME pretty much always did what I asked of it, leaving behind a relatively modest footprint.
I'll probably cut Vista some slack and hang on for SP1, at which time I'll raise expectations a bit. I always found XP SP2 a pleasure to deal with. Call me an MS whore.
