I don't agree that XP was a step-down from 2000, however I do think Vista is the next M.E. (definitely a step-down) I didn't start using XP until service pack 1 which I think is good advice for any operating system. I absolutely love XP in comparison to any version that came before it. It started out a bit bloated, but with tweaking the right settings to turn off the crap and dumping a minimum of 512 of RAM into it, I don't think anything comes close to being as user-friendly, not buggy, and powerful as XP.
