re: Jesus HMF Christ indeed.
I thought the idiocy was obvious on the face of it, which is why I presented the list without comment. I should have known better.
Let's just take two prominent items:
1. An immediate "carbon freeze" that would cap U.S. CO2 emissions at current levels, followed by a program to generate 90% reductions by 2050.
I'm sorry, I must have missed the words "5 to 10 years" in there. I read "immediate." As if 5 years would make a difference.
"Carbon freeze" is gasoline, coal, natural gas, oil, and everything else you burn for power and transportation. It's methane from cattle, and many other things.
Go figure out exactly what a "carbon freeze" entails. Dig up some numbers. What would have to be shut down in this country without any viable alteratives online? What would other nations like China would be doing with their productivity while laughing their asses off at us? The lead time for nuclear power plants in the U.S., even assuming a go-ahead, is well over ten years. Solar panels to reduce hydrocarbon usage by 90 percent? Built with what energy? By hand?
The U.S. generated about 8 billion tons of CO2 in 2000, expected to rise to over 9 billion by 2020. (For the record, the amount of natural CO2 in the atmosphere is about 400 times this amount.) You expect to figure out a way to sequester 7 billion tons of CO2 a year?
I could go on like this for quite a while. I didn't think I would have to.
8. Set a date for a ban on incandescent light bulbs.
I don't know how many light bulbs are actually in use in the United States. I do know they sell 100 million replacement bulbs every year. Assume as a bare minimum in a nation of 300 million people, each uses 1 bulb routinely.
Who pays to replace them all? I understand "new taxes" covers everything for liberals, but still. Who pays to recycle the mercury-laden bulbs? Who builds those facilities?
You are aware that the fluorescent bulb makers are pushing this legislation? Why not? Money up the wazoo.
There is a reason Gore has strenuously avoided venues where he can be questioned closely. Analysts have actually used that list as "proof" that he isn't running for office. Nobody would put that out there if they were running for office.
