Feeling inadequate and anxious, alone, all alone in a wide, wide already, they will not tolerate anything which would force them to rely upon themselves. Scares the hell out of them.
Harley-Davidson riders are the same. And if you've got a gun AND a Harley, well, who needs anything else besides beer?
