If you want to talk about dangerous lighting, there is a true story I remember...(This was when I was working at Brookhaven National Lab)
Some old building in long island was being dismantled, (I think it was a hospital), and as part of the prep for destruction all the glowing 'exit' signs had been removed and set in a pile. A kid broke into the worksite and stole MANY of the signs and took them home to his room, where, for reasons only a male teenaged mind can fathom, he proceeded to break them apart.
The problem was that the signs were glowing because they used Tritium to make a phosphor glow, like some wrist watches did a while back. The kids bedroom became a radiological site. The radiation was WAY above what was considered 'safe' by the EPA (This is NOT the same as saying that it was actually seriously dangerous) so a brookhaven haz-mat team was sent to clean the kids room...
It made me realize that I was not nearly as clever as I could have been when I tried to get out of cleaning my room as a kid....
