Just cut down on the white-meat fish for awhile, clean it up yourself and throw all the stuff in a bag, seal the bag and throw it in the trash.
If you're terrified about the rug, do what the 2k cleaners will probably do - cut out the area where the breakage was. With the worst mercury area gone, replacing the rugs and throwing out the toys is a snap. This woman is messed up with the sealing off the room bit. Let the 71 year old mother or brother have it.
The fact that she has pets probably exposes her kid to more health hazards than some environmental mercury. Animal dander, parasites, heart worms, etcetera will keep their immune systems always working overtime to suppress the worst of it. The closer they are to the pets the larger the problem. (I know all pet owners are crossing themselves by now)
So far two of those CFL bulbs have shattered on me, one while it was still in its packing. Way back when, I'm sure I've cleaned up several broken industrial fluorescent light tubes in the workplace, and no one knew or mentioned anything about the mercury back in the day. The dustpan and the brush were standard procedure. I can still remember the glass was shiny-powdery on the inside.
And what about amalgum fillings? HUNDREDS of MILLIONS have them all over the world. Some have far more than one, their mouths seep mercury vapor every moment of their lives!
Quick questions:
How does a bulb shatter on a shag carpet?
How do you fit a Mercury into a light bulb?
;-)
