Diplomacy, politics, and economics are currently failing spectacularly in the Middle East, Iran, Pakistan, and--to date--North Korea.

The decline of the US influence in the Middle East is under way.

But does it need to be so?
What's urgent is a peace settlement between Israel and the Palestinians.
Diplomats can have an influence if both sides have the impression they can win something they didn't have before. But in order to be receptive, they must agree to talk.
