I am an expert and you are mostly right.

There is a mitigating effect of psychological and physiological addiction when pain is involved, and when the patient is not predisposed to chemical dependency. If one resists the temptation to use them for the euphoria, or to relieve boredom, over and above that needed for pain relief, not elimination, one avoids the real problems. And narcotics for whatever reason are habituating. They don't work for the long-term. They will, however, always relieve the pain of withdrawal from narcotics.

I'm delighted that your experience with one broken arm, and your experience with a short-term course of narcotic pain-relievers, has left you with such vast knowledge. It must have been horribly smashed, and you must be incredibly tough. I have to admire that.

As well as one helluva daredevil to have broken it in the first place.
