God Is Not Great

"There are four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum of servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking."

The problem with first objection is we don't know the origins of man and/or cosmos. But we do like to think we do. Through the disciple of science we do have some general framework of our past- we have some pretty good ideas of the biological evolution tracing back billions of years and such things as the big bang, etc. The other factor is that there are many kinds of religions with different origin stories and for much of human history religion has been mostly about some kind of organization that has developed, taught, and preserve human knowledge and that if some of this knowledge dealt with origins of humans, hardly seems to me to qualify as an "irreducible objection".
And there can be no doubt that science was birthed from the "religious sector"- without religion the very origins of science is not possible.
And given that education up until very recently has been solely due to religion, it seems rather bad form to say "it manages to combine the maximum of servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression"- and the sexual repression being especially strange since some religions were geared around worshiping sex in various aspects.
And finally, I suppose Hitchens' "ultimately grounded on wish-thinking" is some reference to faith. It seems the 12 step program is all about faith and it's very successful compared to any other approach.

It also seems that if you remove religion from society there will be seriously bad consequences. Whereas I doubt there be much problem if atheists were not to exist in society- not that I wish to remove them.

Hitchens' title "God Is Not Great" suggests some hint that Islam may be on this mind- though Christian beliefs seems to part the background of various objections. And I think this present conflict with Islamic extreme elements has the best chance of being resolved thru a religious dialogue. And it seems that without the strong religious faith which is part of American culture it's unlikely that America could be capable of doing anything to stop this madness.
