Has anyone ever tried to rewrite the bible in a secular manner? Strip all religious or supernatural references away, and leave a set of stories that can be used to teach a kid to behave?

If I had a kid, I'd hate to have to buy a hundred different books that would substitute. That would be one heck of a shopping list. There must be a non-religious substitute for "parables" and "proverbs" and all that stuff.
