I wasn't saying that it was okay to use extreme interrogation methods just because our enemies are using them.

I said that forgoing such methods because we think it will improve the morality and behavior of our enemies is a ridiculous concept with no basis in fact or history. No matter what we do, our troops will still be tortured and killed.

There are other, more valid arguments that can be made. For example, that exemplary behavior on our part will gain the approval of allies and others in the world besides the terrorists, although in my experience, the meeker we behave, the more contempt they seem to have for us as well.
