re: NHS

The United States delivers very good health care to around 300 million people (the combined population of every other country in that study is about 200 million) using a mixture of private and public health systems.

This includes a number of illegal immigrants that is, alone, about three times the population of New Zealand. Perhaps such numbers might tilt the overall health care statistics a bit?

Health care was divorced from market forces in the U.S. years ago, and not surprisingly, costs have skyrocketed. Something needs to be done, but turning health care completely over to the State is not going to work here either. Once it's done, though, there won't be any turning back. Then you'll see what a society is really like when only the rich can get good health care.

Incidentally, Christian charity, contrary to what seems to be popular belief, does not involve pointing a gun at someone else and making them give to the poor.
