I support scrapping the Ares I, and concentrating on developing a comprehensive launch system. A system that can be developed to satisfy all launch requirments from LEO and NEO to lunar and deep space. We need one system that can launch payloads stacked on top and larger payloads that can be piggybacked on the side. We need an American Energia.
My plan would develop the Ares V as the core of the system. This launcher could be used as a stand alone SSTO vehicle. When combined with muitiple 5 segment SRBs, it could be used to launch a new larger shuttle design, large single module space stations, or other massive cargo. The second stage of the Ares I would be developed as a second stage for the Ares V. This would allow for a heavier and better protected CEV to be launched to the Moon and NEOs.
A common launch system that can be configured to many different missions. This is what we need to conquer the solar system.

Build the launcher, and everything else will come.

- That sucks.
- Should we really be surprised?
- Try and take the source into account, too.
