Well, obviously language would include sign language or any means of conveying emotions or ideas. Language has undoubtedly, affected human evolution- just as a song bird has evolved.
In other words the human animal will use some kind of language because this ability is "hardwired" into this creature. If raised by wolves, it will speak the wolf language- and probably better than any wolf. But unlike a wolf that human could possibly later learn human languages.
But we know [some extent] how human are without language because some humans are born deaf and blind- now, these people may have been called "dumb", but they are in fact quite distinguishable from animals.
