People do have a right to be stupid if they want (illustrated rather well by the morons I experience in my daily commute) but they don't have the right in a society for their stupidity to cause their neighbors distress and pain.

I live in the Phoenix valley now and I've seen within my own lifetime a major change in our weather that is very localized. We now get a heat bubble effect from the thousands of square miles of asphalt and other heat-absorbing materials. Nightly during our monsoon season I watch huge thunderstorms come up against that bubble and get stopped dead in their tracks and simply dissipate. Instead of that relief I knew so well years ago of a good drenching, we're stuck with just the high humidity of storms all around us.

Our high temperatures have not gone up considerably since my youth but our overnight lows are at record high levels. I'm all for government staying out of our lives as much as possible but if a few laws being passed requiring builders to only install light colored roofs ended this obvious man-caused phenomena, I could easily sign on. The stupid people will find many other freedoms to practice their craft.
