I'm firmly in the pro-science camp, but that doesn't mean I have to criticize the other two camps. I have a hands-off approach to private space travel, and I only criticize the NASA manned program because it harms science budgets (well, mainly that - it's also a waste of money, but if it didn't harm actual science, I wouldn't pay much attention).

Making common cause with the government manned program that's parasitizing space science budgets doesn't make sense to me.

My politically-impossible solution would be to end the NASA manned program and shift some of that government money into Ansari-type awards and to directed and basic research. It'll never happen though.
