C'mon

While I'll admit that it got my knickers in a knot to be called a traitor and a coward for not falling for the fearmongering--which, by the way, seems to me like evidence of just the opposite---but it's more than personal. I believe that that approach to politics has no place in America, that it's disservice to America and Americans, and that it is more likely to undermine America than build it up. It cannot possibly turn out well to urge Americans to be afraid instead of being strong. I disapprove of the Rove approach to politics...

...which, as of this morning, is now a moot point. Rove has resigned!...

..but I digress. You're engaged in some of the same vicious rhetoric, but at a mild level that suggests it may just be an unconscious reflex, when you say "Calling the republican's actions "fearmongering" implies you feel there is nothing to fear". That's the binary fallacy: To disbelieve Republican fearmongering is not to believe that there's nothing to fear. Rather, I believe that the only way we can survive is to maintain calm and hang on to our ability to reason clearly and respond rationally. Republican fearmongering works directly against that, and thus directly against American interests. The Bush/Cheney/Rove style of "leadership" is a betrayal of a sacred trust.

It's not like 9/11 was the first serious crisis to face America. We can judge Bush and the Republicans against historical precedent.

The gold standard for leadership was set by FDR when he said to the country "We have nothing to fear but fear itself."

The shit standard of leadership was set by George W. Bush when he told us to "be afraid, be very afraid".

So, c'mon yourself. This isn't rocket science.
