Yes, last night on the Science Channel.

In 1988 I wrote a short story about a scientist, Frank, trying to stop hurricanes. In the process, he creates a monster storm that destroys Cuba. The USSR claims the US did it on purpose. Now the monster storm is heading to Houston. Frank figures out how to stop his monster storm, but the US government tells him no to. They fear that would lead to a war with the USSR. Frank disobeys and destroys the storm just before it hits Houston; however, all the energy being released from the storm destroys Houston anyway.

Last night I am watching a show on the science channel where they are trying to stop a hurricane, yet something goes wrong. The scene was right out of my story. The plane goes in to seed the hurricane and the storm brings down the plane (With the scientist friend on board).

In this story, the scientist was just trying to see the storm with traditional means. In mine, the scientist is seeding the cloud with something that gives all the water molecules a temporary positive charge so they repel each other.
