There is a potential for the U.S. to grab the tech lead back (for a change). GM is using not only true hybrid technology, but the A123 battery tech I described here a while back. This type of battery is safer than standard lithium-ion batteries, and has incredibly faster charging times. Smaller versions of this battery have charging times of up to 90 percent capacity in about five minutes.
A working plug-in hybrid, especially if combined with rapid charging, will sell like hotcakes.
