Same idea with Orphans
The Scientists on the Ship were far more like priests than actual scientists.
The closest some of the younger members came to "atheism" about their
situation was accepting that the Ship merely existed and was not created
by Jordan, the foundation that originally started the mission and was by
then known in name only.
They had a Devil too - Huff, the name of the guy who started a mutiny that
killed most of the officers and sent the Ship drifting from its original destination,
Alpha Centauri. When a member of the Crew dies, they say he or she has gone
to Far Centaurus.
