50 years of space conquest
50 years since Sputnik !
What I find truly amazing is that even though it was in full cold war and rockets did have the potential to carry nuclear warheads and space was a potential battlefield, the whole space comptetition was peaceful.
As the Soviets have started it with Sputnik, then Laika, then the first picture of the Moon's farside, the first man in space, the first hit and the first soft landing on the Moon, they largely deserve the credit for having kept this a pretige, technological and scientific race, rather than throwing bombs at each other.
