The issue

There are a number of reasons I oppose a government health care monopoly.

Chief among these is that it won't work. The economy will collapse under a load that is ten times that of any other industrialized nation.

As with ANY commodity that is subsidized heavily, prices will begin to rise drastically. Ever wonder why college is so expensive nowadays?

The inevitable result of these two forces is that the medical provider and drug industry will be slapped with heavy price controls--at the very least. With profits essentially taken out of the picture, innovation will slow and dry up.

Meanwhile, the state health care programs in other nations (which are already going broke and instituting rationing as I have documented more than once) will no longer be able to ride on U.S. technologies and innovations, which they simply have to buy off the shelf. This won't be pretty, either.

And when prices can't be controlled any further, rationing will begin.

What you will end up with is what Social Security is: a mechanism to give the elderly just enough income to scrape by. You will get a socialist-style health care system that will just be enough to keep people going. Gone will be the cutting-edge technologies and methods that keep the medical miracles coming.

And when the State monopoly tells you that for some reason you aren't going to get the treatment you want, where will you go? Canada? When politics runs our health care system, are you counting on the politicians thinking the same way you do? About things like abortion, or birth control?

Big Brother? Bad enough everything about your economic life is stored in the IRS computers. Everything about your medical history will be stored in centralized facilities in Washington. You sure the computers won't be talking to each other?

Amazing how so many people who practically drop a log about the idea of somebody tracking a phone call seem to be just fine with what I just described.

You want to fix health care, start fixing it so market forces are working for you instead of the other way around. Before it's too late.

You want to come up with programs to help those who can't get insurance, fine. But for God's sake, don't burn down the house just because there are mice in the kitchen.
