My fax machine isn't connected to the internet
I don't have to pay an Internet Provider to send a fax, just basic phone service. That's how the early modems worked, direct connection to your buddy's computer. Sharing pirated Commodore 64 games. That's how it all started. The internet wasn't invented by CERN or by the Pentagon. The only reason we need servers is to store content so that it is accessible 24-7, instead of only when your buddy left his pc powered up. The people with the servers charge money. It sucks.
