I don't think that's accurate.
ISIS is looking for some sort of outcome. I doubt that they want open warfare with themselves on one side and the US, Russia, China, France, Germany and probably at least a dozen other countries on the other.
It seems more likely that what they're seeking is a divide--a mutual sense of rejection between the Muslim and the non-Muslim worlds...with themselves ruling the Islamic sphere, of course.
They *want* us to hate all of Islam, and to move against Muslims here. They want Islam isolated from the temptations of western culture, so they can build their iron-fisted caliphate without being undermined by western ideas, conveyed by literature, movies or music.
They want exactly what so many conservatives want to give them--a west hostile to Islam.
