The "unbelievers"

I am not even going to attempt a point by point rebuttal of your post, my views are well known and spread throughout this board for everyone to see. I stand by them.

To summarize them, though, I must point out that I see no evidence whatsoever for the validity of what we loosely call the paranormal and until I do, I see no reason why I or anyone else has to pretend that those who believe in those things are immune from criticism or deserving of special respect, other than what common courtesy and good manners demands. What passes for this alleged evidence is simply a report from someone I don't know who has no reputaion I can verify for myself. It's hearsay in a fanzine, about as believable as tabloid news
about BatBoy.

Maybe there is a Loch Ness monster. If they catch it and drag it up on shore and dissect it, or move it to a zoo, there will be proof there is. There are many good reasons to suspect there isn't a monster, but until we drain the Loch and scrutinize the lake bed we can't rule it out for sure, right. With a few minor changes this paragraph could be adapted to a host of other allied topics, by substituting for the monster ghosts, spirits, Atlantis, UFOs, the Bermuda Triangle, the Chariots of the Gods, Bigfoot, Astrology, Pyramid Power, El Chupacabra, Nostradamus, Edgar Cayce, Uri Gellar, or any of a million other current bullshit fantasies.

For all I know, maybe there is a guy in Nigeria willing to pay me millions of dollars to help him get his fortune out of the country--after all, all it takes is one, right? Or maybe I can take a pill that will safely make me lose weight or wear a magic belt that will flatten my abs, or I can make a million on repossessed property if I take a course. I can't prove any of these things are frauds. But I'd just as soon not take my chances.
