I'm trying hard not to peek but I am a curious puppy, I'm afraid.
Actually, my questions are not religious in nature. Although it does move into the spiritual a little, that's not where I'm coming from. It's a genuine "chicken and the egg" question. Which has never been answered, either.
Your answer is pragmatic, focused. I'm certainly not losing sleep over it but have always found the subject fascinating.
Maybe I can solve the "chicken and the egg," though. We have a one-celled creature which divides, mutates, merges, divides, mutates and evolves until one day, we have something that looks rather like a chicken embryo. No longer can it procreate by simple division or merging so it has to come up with another way. It puts some of its DNA together internally. Another of its kind that has just differentiated sexually comes along and tries to merge with the other one, leaving a bit of its own DNA behind which merges with the DNA bit that was set aside by the female. A film grows around both sets of DNA and a now fertilized little egg-like thing is expelled. It becomes like its two parents with a sex determined by the two sets of DNA from which it came. It evolves and later we have the chicken! So the chicken came first.
Now back to the Universe. ;-)
