Did I like it? That's like asking if you like sex if the final orgasm is cut short. The film was masterfully put together with incredible performances by the leading actors. The villain was one of the scariest portrayals of a hit man I've ever seen in my life. Tommy Lee Jones is rapidly becoming one of my favorite actors in Hollywood.
And then.....they create an ending where (SPOILER ALERT) ......................
far below. Do not look if you intend to see this movie. You deserve to be as disappointed as I was.
not a single character you have bonded with in the entire movie has a good resolution. Not a one. All the people you've been rooting for throughout the movie and have shown they have incredible ingenuity to escape unthinkable horrors gets blown away by the bad guy. The killer starts to walk away and then gets t-boned in an auto accident of which he stumbles away from with no resolution. The sheriff escapes execution but seems to go into a funk about how horrible the world has become. Roll credits.
Crap. The last time a movie did this to me was a Jody Foster/Richard Gere Civil War love story where you bond with the characters and he ends up hung for something he didn't do at the end.
I'm sorry. Maybe I'm not that deep and complicated but I go to the movies to be ENTERTAINED. Do you hear that Hollywood? I need at least the appearance of resolution not the feeling like I've just left the funeral of a close friend. Of course writers have the right to not make every ending the same but tell me ahead of time or something. (Warning - this movie is rated D for DOWNER).
