Forgive him

It's just Tech, and he'll never see himself in his mirror principle (good tactic to hold the mirror yourself--you're the one person who can't look in it).

Olbermann's approach is unique and powerful, and quite a contrast with the vicious demagoguery we'd become used to.

The genuine hatemongering demagogue hectors the audience, instructing them what to think and who to hate, and tries to form a mob for a Three Minute Hate. That kind of person is a coward and needs safety in numbers.

But Olbermann looks into the camera and directs his remarks personally to the President. He calls Bush a liar to his face. He's not manipulating or exhorting his audience, he's leading by example, and the audience isn't pressured into agreeing. We're spectators, relatively free to make up our own minds. There's a fundamental difference between "That's what I'm supposed to believe" and "So that's what Keith thinks, and ya know, I think he's right".

He pays self-conscious homage to Edward R. Murrow, everything but the cigarette, and I've read RightWingers try to tear him down based on that alone. Kinda silly, like saying "you're no Jesus!" to somebody who aspires to the standard set by Jesus (not that I"m saying that Murrow was or Olbermann is Jesus); or "You're no Ayn Rand!" to somebody who follows the teachings of Objectivism. So?

Some examples are well worth following. Murrow broke through the fear and initimidation of McCarthyism by standing up to the RightWing witch hunt. Seems like forever, but it was just a couple of years ago that the media was cowed and bootlicking, and most everyone was afraid of being accused of "treason!" for speaking-out against Bush and all his actions. Olbermann broke through that, and seems to have unleased the floodgates. He may not be an original, but he's a hero nonetheless.

Way to go Keith!
