This is CurrentEvents, after all, and not Flame.
Eric got the ball rolling by citing Olbermann's commentary and agreeing with it, as do I. Olbermann's commentary is about current events, and his fame is such that making such a commentary has also become a current event.
You seem to be saying that strong criticism of your President is hate speech. I'd like to know how you come to that conclusion. Is it based on authoritarianism? Does it make you feel insecure if the strong leader is criticized?
Why is it somehow not hate when RightWingers engage in smear campaigns, like the notorious one conducted against Barack Obama? Why is it not hate speech when several times a year I receive email on the Winger circuit describing, in loving detail, Hillary Clinton suffering a gruesome and painful death?
It's not just like the difference between night and day. It's like the difference between the depths of interstellar space and sizzling on the surface of the Sun.
You're also saying that he's a demagogue, e.g. "He unites folks in hate". I wrote that his style is the opposite of that of a demagogue, in that he directly addresses the President. He is engaged in the most fundamental exercize of free speech: "to petition the Government for a redress of grievances". That's quite the opposite of the standard RightWing demagogue's exhortations designed to stir up mob emotions.
Olbermann's not yelling "Fire!" in the crowded theatre of public discourse.
Incitement to riot versus petitioning the government for a redress of grievances. Do you see the difference?
