OK Let's Get Serious
You're also saying that he's a demagogue, e.g. "He unites folks in hate". I wrote that his style is the opposite of that of a demagogue, in that he directly addresses the President. He is engaged in the most fundamental exercize of free speech: "to petition the Government for a redress of grievances". That's quite the opposite of the standard RightWing demagogue's exhortations designed to stir up mob emotions.
The other day I saw a photo, circa 1954, of a white southerner kicking a black old man in the gut. There was a group just a bit behind him, laughing at the site and fully supportive. The most "courageous" and hate-filled was leading them. Directly addressing your victim has nothing to do with avoiding a mob mentality or avoiding mass hate. Olbermann is just a focal point and his over the top, neurotic rants are by design created to spur and ferment mass hatred.
And anyway, Olbermann is not saying it to Bush's face. Olbermann is reading a script he has been handed half an hour earlier to a camera in a safe little studio. Yes Virginia, there are commentary writers employed by all the networks. Olbermann is a performer and a tool used by others who want to further a political agenda. Nothing more. He's an empty suit and fake glasses for the gullible and hate-filled.
However, the network and its owners get results out of him and so they are happy. Once they realized they could tap the hate and create a small but loyal viewership of far left extremists by having Olbermann read rants everyday, they ran with it. MSNBC was teetering on insolvency and so they decided to do what they knew best - leftist reinterpretation of the world and push it even further to the left. They have tried to be the Fox news for hard left folks. Their revenue still is in the c-apper, because they overestimate how many far left folks are out there and along with CBS they lost 15 million a year revenue when their other hate guy, Imus, was let go.
Basically, if you are selling goods to leftists almost exclusively, you'll feel safe spending advertising dollars with MSNBC. Most don't:
IT WON'T BE HAPPY HOLIDAYS at NBC. Chief Jeff Zucker is said to be making huge cuts at NBC News and MSNBC. The New York Post reports that he will axe an entire level of MSNBC's management team to save between $20 million and $40 million
Source: Mediapost publicationsThose folks with lost jobs can thank Olbermann and senior management for pursuing their leftist folly.
A little information goes a long ways. All is not as rosy as it appears.
