re: yes, yes, yes
Or we look at this article//also from the horse's mouth.
In what’s partly a real-estate move, NBC said it would close MSNBC’s headquarters in Secaucus, N.J., splitting studios and office space between NBC’s headquarters in Manhattan’s Rockefeller Center and another NBC facility in Englewood Cliffs, N.J. Similarly out West, NBC will consolidate network, Telemundo and local news facilities in Burbank, Calif.
The company announced no format changes for MSNBC, which has run third behind Fox News Channel and CNN in cable news for much of its 10-year history.
(MSNBC cable is wholly owned by NBC Universal. MSNBC.com is a joint venture of NBC Universal and Microsoft.)
That bit about "format changes for MSNBC, which has run third" is the meat. In other words folks realized their format...well...is worthy of 3rd place behind Fox News and CNN and were expecting changes because its obvious it doesn't work...and hasn't worked for TEN years.
As for the rest, it was so contribe and convoluted, and entirely missed the point, that I doubt you will ever want to see your idol Olbermann as just another O'Reilly - even though that is all he is. Just another paid seal who performs and stirs up the hate cauldron. Researchers know their audience likes shouting at the screen and they offer these orchestrated political "gladiatorial" face offs as well as the rant/monologues which are designed to push buttons. It's Roman forum stuff for folks intellectually just a notch or two above the daytime television viewers.
He's not a political crusader, he's a news desk jockey, primped, pimped and made ready for his oratory. Perhaps an even better way to view him is as a pastor or revival speaker. He's got the audience riled up and shouting, "I EFFING HATE BUSH IN A MILLION DIFFERENT WAYS" to which the network execs reply "HALLELUJAH!" and use any decent Nielsen overnights to justify the price increase on next weeks 30 second commercial blocs. Olbermann takes off his fake glasses, goes home to his penthouse and hopes to be able to deliver the ratings needed to keep asking for a higher salary when his contract comes up for renewal. He knows this is his 15 minutes and when hes gone, he'll be gone for good and wants to make hay while the sun shines - like all the other news jockeys.
The theatrics and acting are second rate, but the audience is so happy to hear what they want to hear they don't notice.
